As part of armour[ edit ] Gorget in a full suit of armour In the High Middle Ages, when mail was the primary form of metal body armor used in Western Europe, the Mail coif protected the neck and lower face. During the 14th century as more plate armor appeared to supplement mail, the Bascinet helmet incorporated a mail curtain called the Aventail which protected the lower face, neck and shoulders. A separate mail collar called a “pisan” or “standard” was sometimes worn under the aventail as additional protection.
Through the early 15th century, gorget plates were integrated into the helmet itself to form the great bascinet. Other forms of helmet such as the sallet which did not protect the lower face and throat with plate were paired with a separate bevor , and the armet was often fitted with a wrapper that included gorget lames protecting the throat.
During this time, the mail standard was still used.

They are thought of as hardwired to hunt for a partner and a mate, while men pursue sex as a pleasurable act in and of itself. It follows from there that women — at least good women — must be pursued and coaxed into sex, and men enjoy the thrill of the chase. And this is where society — for better or worse — kicks in. But socially, many straight men still find it a turnoff when women are sexual aggressors. Which means that, for women, aggressively pursuing the thing they want actually leads to them not getting it….
For example, women and men overwhelmingly state that men are supposed to plan dates, ask out the woman, and pick her up. Moreover, when women do not adhere to these scripts they are viewed negatively. For example, women who initiate dates are viewed by men as more promiscuous and not interested in forming a serious relationship. As a self-proclaimed slut who started most of his relationships by hopping into bed and dealing with the fall-out, I hold no judgment for anyone who does the same.
Plan, pay, court, follow up, and make a consistent effort. Let men do this instead of doing it yourself. What do you think? Your thoughts, below, are appreciated.

History[ edit ] The first professional civilian bomb squad was established by Sir Vivian Dering Majendie. In , he framed The Explosives Act , the first modern legislation for explosives control. After Victoria Station was bombed on 26 February he defused a bomb with a clockwork mechanism which might have gone off at any moment. Known as the “Italian Squad”, its primary mission was to deal with dynamite bombs used by the Mafia to intimidate immigrant Italian merchants and residents.
It would later be known as the “Anarchist Squad” and the “Radical Squad”. Bomb Disposal became a formalized practice in the First World War. The swift mass production of munitions led to many manufacturing defects, and a large proportion of shells fired by both sides were found to be “duds”. In , the Germans developed delayed-action fuzes that would later develop into more sophisticated versions during the s, as Nazi Germany began its secret course of arms development.
These tests led to the development of UXBs unexploded bombs , pioneered by Herbert Ruehlemann of Rheinmetall , and first employed during the Spanish Civil War of — Such delayed-action bombs provoked terror in the civilian population because of the uncertainty of time, and also complicated the task of disarming them. The Germans saw that unexploded bombs caused far more chaos and disruption than bombs that exploded immediately.
